ABOUT HOMESTEAD HERBALS
Homestead Herbals is a small home business based in Kitchener, Ontario. My goal is to create quality handmade herbal products & soaps using organic, natural ingredients that provide nourishing, healing effects for you & the planet. The herbs used in these products are grown on our own Little City Farm property, or sourced from local organic farms whenever possible.
I developed a passion for herbal healing more than a decade ago, initially starting with the chance reading of Rosemary Gladstar's book "Herbal Healing for Women". Since then, I have spent time working on several organic farms across Canada to learn about organic farming practices, and have learned herbalism through apprenticeships and formal studies as a Chartered & Traditional Herbalist. My love for working with plants, creating beautiful healing remedies, and promoting natural healing in the community led me to develop simple herbal products for the needs of friends and family members. This was the beginning of Homestead Herbals in 2001! In 2008, just before the birth of our daughter, I completed my certifications as a Master Herbalist, and Post-Partum Doula.
HERBAL HEALING FOR MAMA & BABY
Although Homestead Herbals offers products suitable for the whole family, I have a particular interest in herbalism for women and children. I have created a "Mama & Baby" series of products (including teas, salves, soap, and tinctures) that use locally grown herbs to provide gentle, natural, organic healing during pregnancy, labour, post-partum, baby & child care.

WHERE IS HOMESTEAD HERBALS BASED?
My partner Greg and I live at Little City Farm, a 1/3 acre “urban homestead” near downtown Kitchener. The herbal products and soaps for Homestead Herbals are created in small batches in our farm kitchen. We grow many of the herbs used in the products on our own small property. We use non-GMO, untreated seeds (if we can’t find certified organic), and grow without using synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. We use ecologically sound practices, including maintaining fertile soil, and using natural pest control methods. Other herbs are ethically wild-crafted or sourced from local organic growers & suppliers. We are members of Canadian Organic Growers and Seeds of Diversity (heritage seed savers), and actively promote & support sustainable agricultural practices.
